The Pelaez Rodriguez family lives 10 minutes by bus from the city center and about 10 minutes by taxi from the El Poblado district with its vibrant cafe culture, restaurants, and nightlife.
They can also organize trips to nearby attractions including coffee farms, traditional "Paisa" towns, and locations further afield from Medellin.
Johanna's mother is an excellent cook, specializing in the traditional fare of Colombia including the famous "Bandeja Paisa", a must-try for visitors to Medellin.
If you are seeking to immerse yourself in Colombian culture with a loving and hospitable family this could be the homestay experience for you.
When Johanna is not at home, she could be replaced by some friend or her siblings to share with you and show you around or be able to talk about the city, if you want to practice your Spanish as well or share a while with her mother in her folk dance group.

Location
Our house is located in the eastern part of the city center in a traditional neighborhood of Medellin. Near the house is the Milagrosa Park with soccer and volleyball, also a large supermarket, a petrol station, police station, local shopping centers, and restaurants. We are 20 minutes from downtown and 10 walking bus. We are also close to the pink zone where most hotels, clubs, and bars in the city are concentrated.
Things to know
House rules
- Access to common rooms. Like the kitchen, laundry, dining room, living room, but clean up when you're done.
- Reduce noise on weekdays after 11:00 pm
- Smoking is not allowed inside the house.
- Contribute to the security of the house by always closing the front door correctly when entering and leaving it.
- Do not invite strangers into the house. If you want to invite a friend, agree with me beforehand.
- Follow biosecurity rules when entering home.
